Northwestern Alumni Nominated for Emmy Awards

The 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced July 13, and several Northwestern alumni and faculty were recognized for their work on television this year.

The following alumni and faculty received nominations:

  • Greg Berlanti as executive producer of The Flight Attendant, which received nine nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series
  • Ashley Nicole Black for Outstanding Writing for Variety Series for A Black Lady Sketch Show and The Amber Ruffin Show
  • Zach Braff for Outstanding Director for a Comedy Series for the Ted Lasso episode “Biscuits”
  • Stephen Colbert for Outstanding Variety Talk Series as the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) as the host of Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand Building Back America Great Again Better 2020; and for Outstanding Short Form Comedy for Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News
  • Kathryn Hahn for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Agatha Harkness on WandaVision
  • Jenny Hagel for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for The Amber Ruffin Show
  • Patrick Hogan for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama (Half-Hour) and Animation for the Cobra Kai episode “December 19”
  • Seth Meyers for Outstanding Short Form Comedy for Late Night with Seth Meyers: CORRECTIONS
  • Brendan Scannell for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for his role as Pete Devon on Bonding
  • Amanda Krieg Thomas for Outstanding Music Supervision for the Halston episode “The Party’s Over”
  • Robin Thede as creator and executive producer of A Black Lady Sketch Show, which received five nominations, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series
  • Marco Williams, professor in the Department of Radio/Television/Film for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program for Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre

Additionally, Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, nominated for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special; and Friends: The Reunion, nominated four times, prominently featured alumni Meghan Markle, and David Schwimmer, respectively.

The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards airs on September 19 at 7 p.m. CDT on CBS and will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.
