NU Club of Switzerland Celebrates 30 Years
On 20 May, the NU Club of Switzerland celebrated its 30th anniversary at the club’s annual general meeting with a traditional Swiss dinner at Haus zum Rüden, a 13th century guild house located on the Limmat River in Zürich. Nearly 40 alumni members and guests learned about the club’s origins from two of the founding board members and past presidents, Bernhard Meyer ’77 LLM and Martine Favarger ’83 LLM. Meyer shared that he was working at an international law firm when colleagues encouraged him to start an alumni club. After writing to Northwestern, he received names of other local alumni and started planning get togethers along with Favarger and Hanspeter Mahler ’78 MBA, who became the club’s first president. Attendees enjoyed hearing Meyer and Favarger share their stories about the early days.
Two other past presidents of the club, Niklaus Huber ’94 MBA and Jonathan Humphries ’08 MBA, also joined the celebration. Club members elected their new board and planned activities for the upcoming year, including an annual summer Lake Zürich dinner boat cruise, professional development and family events, and traditional Swiss dinners with raclette and fondue. The celebration concluded with a purple birthday cake.
