What have you been up to since graduation?

Since graduating, I have dedicated my career to expanding access to higher education, particularly for first-generation, low-income, and undocumented students. Currently, I serve as associate director of recruitment and outreach at Chicago State University, where I lead recruitment and outreach initiatives to connect students with transformative educational opportunities. My work focuses on equity-driven enrollment strategies; fostering strong partnerships with community colleges and Chicago, suburban, and northwest Indiana High Schools; and ensuring students have the resources to succeed.

Who made an impact on your life at Northwestern?

Rosemary Magaña, former staff therapist and liaison to the Latinx and first-generation low-income students, and Myrna García, associate professor of instruction for Latina and Latino Studies, were my rocks while I navigated Northwestern, providing unwavering support, mentorship, and advocacy that helped me find my voice and purpose. My lifelong friend, Erykah Nava, who I met during the Summer Academic Workshop my freshman year, has been a constant source of support both during and after my time at Northwestern. With their guidance, I cofounded Advancement of the Undocumented Community (AUC), creating a space where mixed-status students and students of all immigration statuses could find community, resources, and empowerment. Their impact continues to inspire my work in higher education today.

What does success look like to you?

Success is happiness. It’s the rush of knowing that my work makes a real impact, while also being adequately compensated and appreciated for my contributions. For me, success means doing meaningful work that aligns with my values, uplifts others, and brings fulfillment both professionally and personally.
